Sustainability is a measurement, not a marketing claim

Why the Next Generation of Large Yacht Owners
Must Include Wind Power

Our position
The superyacht industry has spent the past decade marketing sustainability without changing the physics. Solar panels on a 70-metre motor yacht do not meaningfully reduce its emissions; an “Eco” badge does not make a diesel hull a wind-powered one. We will not pretend otherwise. WindVoyage is built on the principle that the only sustainability that counts is the kind that can be measured in nautical miles, kilowatt-hours, and tonnes of CO₂ avoided.
01
How we measure it
-
Percentage of voyage miles under sail
-
Main engine hours per nautical mile
-
Fuel burn per nautical mile, benchmarked against a comparable motor yacht
-
Tonnes of CO₂ avoided versus equivalent-size conventional vessel
-
Hotel load energy intensity at anchor

02
Beyond the boat
We work with our owners and partners on the practical commitments that follow real wind propulsion: ocean conservation programmes, scientific partnerships that ride along on expedition voyages, and transparent reporting of the data the wider industry has been reluctant to publish.

03
Our support of The International SeaKeepers Society
Through Paul Madden’s long-running role with The International SeaKeepers Society, WindVoyage actively connects yacht owners with marine science programmes — including yacht donation pathways for owners ready to retire vessels and contribute to ocean research.
